Conference Madness Begins

Hi everyone!

It's a funny thing. Every year in January, I begin making plans for the summer conferences. I am so excited for summer. Maybe that has something to do with the fact it is one degree outside, but mostly I'm looking forward to conferences. My books for judging the Rita awards came, and now my mind is filled with thoughts of lovely dresses in a large ballroom watching women with frayed nerves cry joyfully on a large screen. I wonder if any of the books in the pile on my table with make it. I wonder what my fellow authors who are reading my book think of it, but mostly I muse on it all like the strange dream it is.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do for this year's RWA national convention. I'm hoping one of my workshop proposals go through. I'd like to present. I'm one of those strangely nutty people that enjoys speaking in front of others, at least about writing. I'm looking forward to meeting new friends, and reconnecting with old ones.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Times Square. I've never truly been to New York. I've only driven through. I'll have one day to explore, and I'm not sure what to do with myself yet. Hopefully I'll find another adventurous person to explore the city with. If I want to talk about wild hopes, hopefully I end up in the Cash Cab. Hey, Ben, I'd totally go for the video bonus question.

I'm looking forward to lots of books, lots of lovely people, and a whole week of kicking off my "normal life" drudgery and wearing sexy shoes.

I'm also looking forward to the Lori Foster Readers and Authors Get Together. I went last year, and it was a blast! We had so much fun. It was informal and comfortable with lots of awesome authors and even more awesome readers. If you are in the Cincinnati/Dayton area, I highly recommend you stop by.

So my summer dreams of conference fun are getting me by these cold dark days.

If you are planning on going to, let me know! I'd love to meet you there.

Happy reading!

Jess

Hey Jess!
We're still car-pooling to NYC, correct? Cause I'm ready to register for RWA Nationals. I already have my vacation submitted (didn't want to take any chances of not getting it approved because I was too late).

You're braver than I am when it comes to talking in front of groups. I had a hard enough time just reading my short story during the Christmas party!

And if you need someone to sight-see with, I've been to NYC two times in the last three years, so I'm not a complete spaz when it comes to using the subway!

Hi Stacy!

Some of my plans got tweaked a little. The current plan is to leave really early in the morning on Sunday, before the conference starts. Can you leave then?

I took the whole week off, so leaving Sunday is okay with me.

Did you need a roomate, too? I'm not sure how that all works. I think there's a list I can put my name on.

I hope you enjoy your conference. I've enjoyed going to the Hawai'i Library Association conventions when I've gone. I'm sure they're not the same, but they're still a big gathering of a whole bunch of friendly people with the occasional familiar face. Even better, they're all there hopiong to talk shop, so the conversations tend to be particularly interesting. {SMILE, wink}

Okay, Stacy, it looks like you're riding with me then. :) I do have a roommate for the conference. Yay! I'm excited about the whole thing though.
