This Smells Awesome!

Hi everyone!

I have been feeling the pressure of the holiday season, but this weekend I took a little time out to do something purely for myself. I made a gingerbread house. There's no point to it. It doesn't finish the shopping, wrap the presents, write the Christmas letter, bake the cookies, or clean the house. It took time away from all that holiday junk, and you know what? It made me happy. Every time I pass by it, it smells fantastic, and I smile. I've never made a gingerbread house out of actual gingerbread before. I cheated and did some pretty fancy decorating on cardboard a time or two. This is my first nearly entirely edible structure. The only part that's not edible is the wax paper that stuck to the back of the melted lollipop window panes, but I wasn't expecting that little hitch in my plans. Guess who is going to ask Santa for some silicone baking sheets for next year?

I'm tempted to go out and find a tiny LED light I can pop in the center of the house just to see if I can get the windows to light up. That would be awesome. The swirling colors are so pretty, but you can't see them because it is too dark in the interior of the house now that it is all together.

I wasn't the only one to get in on some baked goods architecture. Check out this house that my little one decorated. It is so cute! And this one is entirely edible, so I should have fun trying to get him back down off the sugar high once I let him eat it.

So, since I'm walking around the house like a proud mother hen, here's the new house in all it's glory. Merry Christmas, everyone. I hope you take the time to do something that makes you happy.

Happy reading!

Jess

Both of those houses look great! {REALLY BIG GRIN}

I've never done them, myself. I'm tempted, but I'm tempted to try a friend's "cheat" using pre-cooked cookie-crackers to build it. {Smile, wink}

When I was a teen, I used to really cheat and pin cardboard together then decorate it. The thing that shocked me is how amazing it smells. The cardboard has nothing on this. I'm particularly proud of sculpting Mrs. Claus out of Starburst.

A friend suggested a sheat I'm tepted to try here: http://bakingfiend-akinaj.blogspot.com/2010/12/miniature-hexenhaus-gingerbread-house.html . I'm sure it won't smell as nice as yours, but it's edible. {Smile, wink}
